The Vela Effort at MSU
The Vela project is an
experiment in distributed ECAD using the WWW. The Vela project is
headed by Franc Brglez at NCSU. MSU is participating in the Vela
project in two areas:
  - Design Libraries and Services.
MSU is providing Standard Cell library
       services over the WWW.
The library services include synthesis and layout using
      an internally developed
WWW-based server name JavaCADD for remote CAD tool invocation of commercial
tools which run on MSU resources. The standard cell
       libraries
were developed at MSU and are compatible with MOSIS
      technologies.

 - Design Driver.
The design driver for the WWW capability being developed within Vela is
a single chip multimedia processor. The processor contains an
embedded RISC core, a PCI bus interface, MPEG Video Decompression
block, and an audio codec. MSU is working with Anantha Chandrakasan on
the MPEG decoder block. The design driver effort is headed by
Jan Rabaey (Berkely), other members include Anantha
Chandrakasan (MIT),Dimitri Antonaidis (MIT), and Teresa Meng (MIT).
